King Kong Origin Film ‘Skull Island’ Casts a Marvel Fan Favorite

Tom Hiddleston who plays the anti hero Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been cast for Skull Island. The film will serve as an origin story for King Kong. There’s no official word on what Hiddleston role will be, but some presume it’ll be the adventurer/explorer type character (think Sam Neill from Jurassic Park). This is a great casting not just for fans, but for the project itself.

Legendary took fans by surprise when announcing a King Kong origins film at Comic Con, as one of their bigger upcoming projects. Movie critics really liked the ’05 Peter Jackson directed King Kong (84% Rotten Tomatoes), while audience reactions were more split. So you can imagine movie goers weren’t exactly thrilled at the announcement. However, adding a talent like Tom Hiddleston, with his onscreen charisma that audiences love changes that. The studio must have realized they needed a hit as far as casting, so why not get a guy that audiences want to see more of? You know besides the Loki character.

Skull Island already has a drafted script from Max Borenstein, who also wrote Legendary’s successful Godzilla reboot. The film is set to be directed by Vogt-Roberts, who broke out last years with his indie film Kings of Summer. It seems Legendary is following the trend of giving small film directors a blockbuster project.

One thing that I hope studio would at least discuss is bringing in Andy Serkis for motion capture work. Serkis did an amazing job doing the capture work for Peter Jackson’s King Kong and even played a small character who had his moments in the film. For those Movie Talkers who weren’t as excited about Skull Island (me) look out, this blockbuster is starting to shape up to be something BIG.

Skull Island is set to hit theaters on November 4th, 2016
