If you’re a Star Wars fan, whether average or die hard, you’re gonna find something to love about this new teaser trailer. Part of what makes me so excited in seeing the continuation of the Star Wars saga (post Return of the Jedi) is the return of the original cast. We finally got our first look at some of the original cast members, specifically Han Solo and Chewbacca. Let me just saying, its great to see them back in a Star Wars movie again. Oh yeah, the voice over was in fact Luke Skywalker, in case you weren’t sure.

This being a teaser trailer, it doesn’t feature a definitive/confirmed plot line for The Force Awakens, which is fine the movie is still more than 8 months away. What we know is that the film takes place 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi. The trailer had shots that symbolized this from the crashed Imperial Star Destroyer in the background of the opening shot, to Darth Vader’s burned helmet.Of course if you missed those, you have to at least noticed that Han Solo has in fact aged.

This trailer once again puts the focus on the new cast members John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Oscar Isaac. All three were in attendance for a Q&A during the Star Wars Celebration where the teaser trailer debuted. During their interviews, each cast member talked about their characters.

  • Daisy Ridley described her character, Rey as a scavenger in a ship graveyard who flys solo on the planet of Jakku. What I find interesting is the rumor that she’s the offspring of a character from the original trilogy, hence why she’s in hiding.
  • John Boyega revealed that his character, Finn is in fact a stormtrooper, to which Director Abrams nodded in disapproval. He also described his character as being in danger on the planet of Jakku, where he encounters Rey (Ridley).
  • Oscar Issac called his character, Poe Dameron the best friggin X-Wing fighter in the galaxy. He mentions his character gets sent on an important mission by a certain princess, where he later crosses paths with Finn.

I gotta assume that at some point all three character meet and team up.

Finally, the trailer shows off some of the villains for The Force Awakens. I haven’t seen a more dangerous looking sith in Kylo Ren since… Darth Maul back in The Phantom Menace. Speculation is still running wild as far as who’s playing the character, but my money is on Adam Driver. Then there’s the stormtrooper who’s armor is layered with chrome. He definitely stands out from the rest and someone I’m looking to learn more about.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens also stars Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis,Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anders, Warwick Davis, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, and Max von Sydow.
